Recruitment Day

Purpose:

The purpose of Recruitment Day is to provide potential participants the opportunity to experience Upward Bound in a day. Designed to give participants the opportunity to learn about the program, the benefits, and the expectations. 

  • The day begins with orientation. At the end of orientation, all parents leave the Upward Bound applicants for the day with staff and current participants.

In-Person Event

Students are placed into groups with potential resident assistants applying to work the program for the summer. The groups are assigned activities to foster comradery and rapport. 
 
After an hour, the groups are then merged into a larger group allowing the students to learn each other's names and target schools.
 
For lunch, students will experience dining in the La Mesa cafeteria and have the opportunity to mingle with other potential participants.

Following lunch, groups will go to their assigned stations.
  • Student panel
  • Teambuilding in the Loft  
  • STEM Activity 
  • ASU Campus Tour
  • Interview
 
At the end of the day, students return to Plachy Field House to ask questions and meet their parents to return home.

 Orientation

Alternative virtual or in-person dates will be offered to families who are unable to participate in person on March 11th. We will host an orientation for parents and students. Time will be reserved to answer questions parents and students may have.
